Therapeutic Approach

Therapy with us is a warm, collaborative space where you are seen, heard, and truly understood. Karey Swartwout believes healing happens through genuine connection, deep listening, and a compassionate approach rooted in both science and heart.

With a foundation in humanistic therapy, Karey sees each client as whole, capable, and worthy of a fulfilling life. She approaches therapy with openness, curiosity, and deep respect for your experiences, creating a space where you can safely explore challenges without judgment. The trust built in this relationship becomes the foundation for meaningful growth and change.

Our approach is also practical and evidence-based, blending research-backed methods (see below) with intuitive care. She tailors each session to your unique needs, integrating techniques from CBT, psychodynamic therapy, somatic practices, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care to help you uncover insights, develop resilience, and move forward with clarity.

At its core, our work is about helping you reconnect—with yourself, your values, and the life you want to build. Whether you’re navigating stress, relationships, career challenges, or personal growth, we are here to walk alongside you with empathy, wisdom, and a deep commitment to your well-being.

Evidence-Based & Insight-Driven Methods

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – Helping clients reframe negative thought patterns, reduce anxiety, and manage depression by challenging automatic thoughts and replacing them with healthier perspectives.
  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) – Teaching clients how to accept difficult emotions rather than suppress them, align with their values, and take committed action toward a meaningful life.
  • Mindfulness & Somatic Therapy – Using grounding techniques, breathwork, and body awareness to regulate the nervous system, manage stress, trauma, and emotional overwhelm, and build emotional resilience.
  • Solution-Focused Therapy – Shifting from problem analysis to action, helping clients identify strengths, set achievable goals, and take small, powerful steps toward growth.
  • Attachment-Based Therapy – Examining how early relationships influence self-esteem, emotional regulation, and relationship patterns, making it especially helpful for dating, breakups, parenting, and relational struggles.
  • Trauma-Informed Therapy (Including EMDR Techniques & Polyvagal Theory) – Addressing past trauma, PTSD, and unresolved emotional wounds while rebuilding a sense of safety, control, and self-trust.
  • Strengths-Based & Positive Psychology – Focusing on resilience, confidence, and purpose instead of just symptoms, helping clients shift from fixing problems to thriving in their strengths.
  • Executive Function Coaching (for ADHD & Focus Issues) – Teaching practical strategies for time management, decision-making, emotional regulation, and focus, especially for ADHD, overwhelmed professionals, and busy parents.
  • Interpersonal & Relational Therapy – Helping clients improve communication, conflict resolution, and relationship skills, whether in parenting, dating, or professional settings.
  • Narrative Therapy & Self-Identity Work – Helping clients reframe personal stories and rewrite limiting beliefs, particularly in life transitions, grief, divorce, career shifts, and rediscovering self-worth.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy – Exploring unconscious patterns, early life experiences, and emotional blind spots that shape present-day behavior, relationships, and decision-making. Ideal for clients dealing with self-sabotage, generational patterns, and emotional struggles they can’t quite explain.
