Under federal law, individuals who do not have health insurance or who choose not to use insurance to pay for services have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of their care. If you are uninsured or plan to pay for services yourself without submitting claims to your health insurance plan, Swartwout Group will provide a written estimate of the expected charges for scheduled services as required by the No Surprises Act. You may also request a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling services or at any time during your care.
A Good Faith Estimate is based on the information reasonably available at the time the estimate is prepared. Because the frequency and duration of psychotherapy can vary according to each client's needs and circumstances, the estimate may include anticipated services over a period of time rather than a guarantee of the total cost of treatment. You will be informed of the fee for your services before treatment begins.
Your Right to Dispute Certain Charges
If you receive a bill from a provider that is substantially higher than the amount listed on your Good Faith Estimate, you may have the right to use the federal patient-provider dispute resolution process. Under current federal rules, a bill may generally qualify for this process when the billed charges from a provider or facility are at least $400 more than the amount listed for that provider or facility on the Good Faith Estimate. For additional information about your rights under the No Surprises Act, visit the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services at cms.gov/nosurprises.
